Division of Student Affairs

Helping Every Student Flourish

The departments that comprise the Division of Student Affairs are focused not only on students’ achievement but also their overall health and well-being. As we uphold the aspirations of a health-promoting university, we embrace the mission of UNA to be innovative, inclusive, engaged, evolving, and global with our offerings and our impact.

We explore ways to enhance UNA’s supportive campus environments, generate thriving communities, shape a culture of well-being, support personal development, embed health into all aspects of campus culture and across the institution, and create or reorient campus services.

[UNA: note that the message from the VP was primarily this language but was not signed by an individual on the current, so I used it here. You can still add a personal letter section if you’d like.]

Mission, Vision, and Values

Our mission is to promote lifelong learning and development, healthy living, leadership, integrity, employability, and civic responsibility in a global society. We envision a future where we continue to inspire student success on an even greater level through research-informed practice, collaborative partnerships, and opportunity for student engagement in co-curricular experiences.

Our Values:

  • We will adhere to professional standards of personal, academic, and intellectual integrity.
  • We will embrace the diversity of cultural backgrounds, personal characteristics, and life situations represented in this community.
  • We will value and inspire a just and equitable environment for the free expression of ideas, opinions, thoughts, and differences in people.
  • We understand that our actions serve as an example to students and will challenge actions that may be harmful to and/or diminish the worth of others.
  • We will display respect for the rights and dignity of all.
  • We will exhibit a high level of responsibility to self, to others, and to the community.

Professional Development

The Student Affairs Professional Development Committee supports the growth of Student Affairs staff by creating opportunities for learning, connection, and recognition across the division. Through programs, workshops, resource sharing, and conversations around current topics in the field, the committee helps staff members continue developing professionally and personally while celebrating the work they do to improve student life at UNA.

The committee includes Student Affairs professionals from a range of roles and experience levels. If you’d like to get involved, we solicit interest from all Student Affairs staff each April. To learn more contact sapd@una.edu.
