Program Overview
Build leadership skills, confidence, discipline, and career readiness through the Military Science minor and Army ROTC program at UNA. Army ROTC is one of the oldest and best-known leadership courses in the country and can be part of a student’s college curriculum while they pursue a bachelor’s degree. Through UNA’s Department of Military Science, students can participate in the U.S. Army Senior ROTC Program and, upon completing all commissioning requirements, may earn a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve upon graduation. The Military Science minor requires 26 credit hours.
Why Choose This Program?
- Develop leadership skills that transfer to any career. Army ROTC emphasizes leadership development, decision-making, teamwork, responsibility, and service.
- Explore ROTC before making a service commitment. Enrollment in the Basic Course Program does not commit students to continue in the Advanced ROTC program or incur a military obligation, unless they have received an Army ROTC scholarship.
- Pursue a pathway to commissioning. Students who complete all requirements may commission as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve after graduation.
Curriculum & Coursework
The Military Science minor provides ROTC coursework in leadership, tactics, officership, military history, ethics, management, and the transition to service as a lieutenant. The minor requires 26 total credit hours. The ROTC program includes a two-year Basic Course Program and a two-year Advanced Course Program. Credit for the Basic Course may be completed through Basic Camp before enrollment in the Advanced Course. Students with prior military training who wish to enroll in the Advanced Course may have part or all of the Basic Course requirements waived by the Professor of Military Science.
