Physics Program Concentrations:
Professional Physics
The Professional Physics concentration provides the most advanced preparation in physics, with coursework in quantum mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, classical dynamics, laboratory work, and directed research. It’s designed for students interested in graduate study, research, engineering-adjacent fields, or technical careers that require strong analytical, mathematical, and computational skills.
General Physics
This concentration gives students a strong foundation in core physics while allowing room to pair the major with another area of study through a minor, second major, or second degree. With courses in laboratory methods, electricity and magnetism, classical dynamics, research, and upper-level physics electives, students can shape the degree around a wide range of academic and career goals.
Geophysics
The Geophysics concentration combines physics with earth science to help students study the physical processes that shape the planet. Through coursework in geology, geophysics, tectonics, seismology, laboratory work, and research, students build skills for careers or graduate study in areas like natural resources, environmental science, earth systems, and geoscience.
General Science
General Science offers a broad science foundation across biology, chemistry, earth science, mathematics, and physics. It’s a strong fit for students who want an interdisciplinary science background that can support teaching, science communication, technical roles, or continued study in a related field.
