The University of North Alabama is committed to preparing highly qualified educators and professionals who are ready to make an impact in their chosen fields. As part of that commitment, the Spencer College of Education and Human Sciences utilizes Student Learning and Licensure (SLL), a comprehensive assessment and data management system developed by Watermark that helps students track progress, demonstrate professional competencies, and document important milestones throughout their academic journey.

SLL (formerly Tk20) serves as a central platform for collecting and evaluating key assessments, clinical experiences, field placements, and professional portfolios. By bringing these components together in one system, students can better understand their progress while faculty can provide meaningful feedback and support.

Using SLL Throughout Your Academic Journey

Students in educator preparation and other participating programs will use SLL at various points throughout their coursework and clinical experiences. The platform provides a structured process for submitting assignments, documenting field experiences, completing assessments, and maintaining records that demonstrate professional growth.
As students progress through their programs, SLL helps connect classroom learning with practical application by providing opportunities to reflect on experiences, monitor performance, and showcase achievement of program outcomes. Faculty use the system to assess student learning and ensure candidates are developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions expected of future professionals.

Tools for Professional Preparation and Licensure

SLL supports student success by helping candidates:

• Submit key program assessments
• Document field and clinical experiences
• Maintain professional portfolios
• Track progress toward program requirements
• Receive faculty feedback and evaluations
• Demonstrate competency in professional standards
• Prepare for certification and licensure processes
• Maintain records needed for accreditation and reporting
• Students are encouraged to become familiar with SLL early in their academic career and regularly monitor their progress to ensure they remain on track toward graduation and professional goals. SLL is a required tool for all COEHS students.

What Is Tk20?

Tk20 was our previous database, operating similarly to SLL. We transitioned our assessments to SLL due to the outdated nature of Tk20 and because SLL offers a more user-friendly interface. However, we will continue to use Tk20 for TEP/GTEP, Internship, and Certification applications until further notice.
