Can I transfer education courses from another institution?

Education courses completed at another institution typically transfer to UNA as elective credit. If you believe a course is equivalent to a required UNA education course, you may request a course substitution. Can I take a transient course at another institution after being admitted to the Educator Preparation Program?

Candidates who wish to take coursework at another institution and transfer those credits back into UNA must secure pre-approval from the Dean of the college in which the course(s) are taught for both the enrollment and the specific courses to be taken. Candidates on academic probation, academic warning, or conditional admission cannot be approved for transient work. 

Candidates may not receive transient approval for courses failed in residence at UNA. Candidates seeking transient approval for work at a junior or community college should be aware that a minimum of 64 semester hours must be earned from UNA or other senior institutions to fulfill graduation requirements. How do I request a letter of recommendation from a faculty member?

Students requesting a letter of recommendation should first complete the appropriate FERPA release form and provide it to the faculty member. Faculty may choose whether to provide a recommendation based on their professional judgment and familiarity with the student.

Can I complete UNA’s Educator Preparation Program and become certified in another state?

Possibly. Certification requirements vary by state. Students who plan to seek licensure outside Alabama should contact the Department of Education in the state where they intend to work to determine specific certification requirements and reciprocity policies.

Can I apply to UNA online?
