The Aubrey & Annie Looney Disability Support Services office provides support and appropriate accommodations for students attending The University of North Alabama who have learning, physical, and psychological disabilities, whether attending online, at off-campus instructional sites, or on campus.
By taking advantage of the services offered, students can experience not only academic success but also personal success. Each service is designed to enhance students’ learning experiences, assist them with academic challenges, and help students achieve their goals while at UNA.
Disability Support Services Offered
We offer a wide range of services to help students achieve their academic goals while maintaining the integrity of UNA’s academic program requirements. We provide reasonable accommodations for qualified students.

- Initial determination and application of classroom accommodations
- Alternative Testing Program
- Liaison with other campus entities for specific accessibility issues and education
- Academic Guidance and Study Skills sessions
- Assistive Technology
- Alternate Formats
- Note-Taking Assistance
Disability Support Services (DSS) Portal
Our DSS PORTAL allows students/faculty/staff to complete tasks such as register for services, request accommodation forms, and/or complete accommodation reviews.
- Registering with DSS – for new students/faculty/staff registering with the DSS Office for the first time. These students/faculty/staff have not completed an intake appointment with DSS staff and need to complete the application.
- Request Accommodation Forms – for students who are approved or provisionally approved for accommodations for the current semester. Students will follow the instructions to access the DSS PORTAL to complete the request.
- Additional Accommodation Request – for students who are currently approved for accommodations who would like to request additional accommodations. Students will follow the instructions to access the DSS PORTAL to complete the review.
- Instructors – for faculty members to access the accommodation form to provide confirmation and acknowledgment of receipt.

Scholarship Information
Explore information for students with disabilities interested in studying abroad and potential scholarships available to assist below:
- Study Abroad for Students with Disabilities
- Assistive Technology award available to college students diagnosed with a learning disorder and/or AD/HD who intend to pursue an undergraduate degree.
- Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarships for graduating high school seniors
- Rise Scholarship for current high school seniors diagnosed with a learning disorder or ASD who plan to attend a college or university in the upcoming academic year.
- Fred J. Epstein Youth Achievement Award for a student diagnosed with a learning disorder or AD/HD who has demonstrated initiative, talent, and determination resulting in a notable accomplishment.
- Diabetes Scholars Foundation offers general scholarships to high school seniors with Type 1 diabetes who are planning to attend a college or university. There are different scholarships available with unique criteria, such as prospective majors, geographic location, or excellence in athletics or the arts.
- P. Buckley Moss Endowed Scholarship is available to students with a diagnosed learning disorder who are aspiring towards a career in the visual arts.
