Media and Public Relations

Sharing UNA Stories with Purpose

At the University of North Alabama, there are many opportunities to share your story. The Office of Media and Public Relations helps campus partners craft their narratives, reach the right audiences, and communicate the latest UNA news and information.

As the face of the University, the Office of Media and Public Relations works closely with media partners to share stories that strengthen UNA’s brand and image with the university community, parents, prospective students, prospective donors, alumni, friends, and the broader public.

What We Do

The Office of Media and Public Relations coordinates news alerts, announcements, releases, press conferences, media outreach, and other public-facing communications on behalf of the University.

Media and public relations support may include:

  • News releases and announcements
  • Media relations and media inquiries
  • University press conferences
  • Internal and external news coordination
  • Print, radio, television, and web media outreach
  • Story development and messaging support
  • Social media guidance
  • Filming and campus media requests

Submit News and Information

Have exciting news to share from your area? Faculty, staff, departments, divisions, and campus partners can submit news and information for review through the news request form.

Once approved at the Division Leader level, the Director of the Office of Media and Public Relations will determine how to share the news internally, externally, or both, in coordination with the Office of Enrollment Marketing and Digital Communication.

PRide PRessroom

The PRide Pressroom is the central place to find the latest news releases, featured news items, and media coverage from the University of North Alabama.

Social Media Guidelines

Social media is one of the primary ways UNA communicates and engages with prospective students, parents, visitors, fans, alumni, and the campus community.

The University welcomes interaction from users on social networking sites. However, social media sites are not private, and users should use discretion when posting personal information. UNA reserves the right to remove content or comments at its discretion, including unlawful content, spam, comments unrelated to the original post, threatening content, commercial promotions, or content that violates University policy.

Questions about UNA’s social networks or social media guidelines should be directed to the Office of Media and Public Relations.

Athletic Media Guidelines

Athletic media guidelines help media partners, athletics staff, and other approved parties understand expectations for covering UNA Athletics.

These guidelines should be linked from this page so users can access the most current policies and procedures related to Athletics media coverage.

Speakers’ Bureau

The University of North Alabama Speakers’ Bureau is an educational service for students, faculty, staff, alumni, guests, visitors, and community members who would like to receive expert presentations on a variety of topics.

Topics may include health and fitness, the environment, business practices, international affairs, social issues, and other areas of faculty and staff expertise.

To book a speaker for an upcoming event, contact the Office of Media and Public Relations.

Filming on Campus

Filming on UNA’s campus must be reviewed and approved in advance. Requests are evaluated based on whether the filming would interfere with educational, research, program, or scheduled events; pose a safety or security risk; compromise privacy; create logistical concerns; or conflict with the University’s best interests.

A filming request form should be submitted at least 30 calendar days before the planned filming date.

Campus Grounds and Location Use

All persons wishing to film outdoors at UNA must complete an Application to Film on Campus Grounds. The application helps coordinate logistics, prevent scheduling conflicts, and ensure appropriate UNA departments are notified in advance.

Non-UNA affiliated individuals or organizations may also be required to complete a Location Agreement and provide a Certificate of Insurance before filming can take place.

Drones and Aerial Devices

The use of drones, unmanned aircraft systems, or other aerial devices on UNA’s campus is strictly regulated. Any drone or aerial filming activity must comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations, state law, and University policy, and must receive prior written approval from the University.

Fees and Approvals

Grounds and location fees for filming on UNA’s campus may apply based on the length, scope, location, and nature of the production. Additional charges may apply for University services such as police, parking, facilities, or grounds support.

Media Inquiries and Press Conferences

All media inquiries should be directed to the Office of Media and Public Relations. University press conferences are coordinated through this office and are reserved for major news announcements.

The Office of Media and Public Relations works with campus partners and external media to ensure UNA news is shared accurately, appropriately, and in alignment with University messaging.
