Counselor Education
The Department of Counselor Education offers master’s degree programs for students who have completed bachelor’s degrees and are preparing themselves for employment as school or clinical mental health counselors. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.A.) and the School Counseling (M.A.Ed.) programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)under the 2009 standards and listed on the International Registry of Counselor Education Programs.
We offer a traditional face-to-face, on-campus program designed to accommodate working students. Methods of instruction vary by course and include lecture, reading, experiential activities, discussion, group and individual projects and papers, modeling, role-play, internships, etc.

Teaching, Learning, and Leadership
This department offers many undergraduate, graduate, and education specialist degree programs, many of which lead to a recommendation for Alabama Professional Educator certification.
All programs leading to educator certification are approved by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) and are accredited through Spring 2028 by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Graduates of the University of North Alabama’s programs are knowledgeable, practicing professionals who are prepared as outstanding educators and leaders through achievement of the highest standards of knowledge and practice to assist all students to learn.

Kinesiology
The Department of Kinesiology is where your passion for health, movement, and human performance turns into a rewarding and impactful career. Our mission is to improve lives through active, healthy living while preparing future leaders in physical education, exercise science, fitness, recreation, health, and sport management.
As a student in our department, you’ll gain a strong academic foundation and hands-on experience guided by expert faculty with diverse backgrounds in research, professional practice, and industry leadership. Many professors are active researchers in our state-of-the-art Human Performance Laboratory and regularly share their expertise at national and international conferences. They also serve as consultants to schools, health centers, hospitals, and wellness organizations, offering students real-world insights and connections that lead to exciting opportunities.
