The Cole Honors College at the University of North Alabama provides high-achieving students with an enriched academic experience that challenges them to think critically, lead purposefully, and engage deeply with the world around them. Through small classes, interdisciplinary learning, faculty mentorship, research opportunities, and a vibrant intellectual community, Honors students are encouraged to pursue excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
Honors education at UNA is designed to complement any major, allowing students to combine rigorous academic exploration with the flexibility to pursue their individual interests and career goals. Whether conducting research, participating in service initiatives, studying abroad, or collaborating with faculty mentors, Honors students become part of a community dedicated to lifelong learning and meaningful impact.
Benefits of the Honors College Include:
- Tuition Scholarships – You’ll receive $650 per semester renewable for up to eight total semesters. First time, first-year, freshmen students receive a two-year housing scholarship at $4,000 per year. Scholarships for study abroad and travel are also available.
- Access to the Honors House – You’ll get access to our Honors House at Coby Hall with study rooms, a computer lab with free printing, an innovation space, a kitchen, a lounge, and outdoor recreation areas. You’ll also enjoy relaxed extracurricular events and great food.
- Leadership Development – You’ll develop the confidence and skills needed to lead within the university, community, and future profession. You’ll gain experiences that strengthen applications for graduate programs, scholarships, fellowships, and professional opportunities.

Honors Mentor Program
The Honors Mentor Program connects students with experienced peer mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and support throughout the transition to college and beyond. Mentors help students navigate academic expectations, connect with campus resources, become involved in university life, and make the most of their Honors experience.
The program fosters meaningful relationships that contribute to student success while helping new Honors students build confidence and develop connections within the university community. By creating a strong network of support, the Honors Mentor Program helps students thrive academically, socially, and personally.
