Pride Rock
Before every kickoff, the Lions touch a piece of history.
After bringing home the 1993 National Football Championship, the University of North Alabama athletic program planted a 60-pound piece of engraved granite along the path from the locker room to the field. Florence Marble Works engraved the paw print of Leo I, UNA’s first live mascot, into Pride Rock, named for the lions' home in Disney's The Lion King.
For more than 30 years, before every home game, UNA players touch Pride Rock on their way to the field. Each quiet touch connects current players with all that have worn the purple and gold before. Pride Rock reminds every player what has been built for them and commissions them to hold the line. Pride Rock has traveled with the Lions to away games and championship runs alike.
This rock isn’t a relic, it's a promise. Each touch says the same thing: we play for each other, we play for those who came before us, and we're building on a legacy that's bigger than any single game.
