Improve Your Writing at Any Level

Located on the 2nd floor of Collier Library, the Center for Writing Excellence (CWE) offers free tutorial services for assistance with writing. Each of our writing consultants (tutor) has specialized training and has undergone hours of detailed preparation and training to serve the needs of all students on campus, from undergraduate to graduate students. Our writing consultants can also assist faculty and/or staff with writing projects.

Our mission is threefold:

  • To provide all UNA students with instruction and writing resources
  • To provide UNA faculty with teaching resource support and professional development opportunities in Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) and Writing in the Disciplines (WID)
  • To assist UNA community members with writing, reading, and writing-as-critical-thinking projects

Make an Appointment

The CWE offers appointments and e-tutoring online as well as in-person appointments at Collier Library. You can schedule an in-person or virtual appointment through WCOnline, through which you will also conduct your online appointments. Please limit appointments to 30 minutes for in-person and 1 hour for online. Appointments must be cancelled 24 hours in advance. What to Expect

The Center for Writing Excellence is designed to help you grow as a writer, not just fix a single paper. During your visit, a writing consultant will talk with you about your assignment, review your ideas or draft, and offer guidance to help you strengthen your writing skills and feel more confident in your work. We can support you at any part of the writing process, from getting started to revising. Here are some things to know ahead of your appointment:

  • Bring any assignment instructions, class notes, outlines, or drafts you have.
  • Come early in the writing process when there is still time to brainstorm, revise, and edit.
  • Expect suggestions, feedback, and support—not someone to rewrite or “fix” your paper for you.
  • Writing Center services are free for UNA students and the UNA community.
